Improve your own learning
This activity helps learners think about their skills and their approach to learning. It should provide a good starting point for a first review session and could usefully be repeated later in the programme.
There's an interactive version| as well as a card-based activity.
The resources comprise:
- four cards marked Never, Sometimes, Usually, Always
- twenty cards with statements about approaches to learning. They are based on the standards for the key skills qualification Improve own learning and performance
- eight blank cards for you to add statements
- a recording sheet
- a guidance sheet for learners.
How to use them
- Lay out the four cards marked Never, Sometimes, Usually, Always in front of the learner.
- Hand the statement cards to the learner. Ask them to decide how frequently the statements are true of their behaviour and place the statements on the relevant cards.
- Together, look back through the results of the activity. What have you each learned about the individual? How will this help you to set new targets?
- Record the learner's responses using the supplied record sheet.
