Using learners' feedback to develop resources: 2D3D

Many learners find it difficult to manipulate images in their mind's eye.
They may use CAD software to translate 2D into 3D and vice versa but this does not help them to learn the skill for themselves. Examples in text books are equally unhelpful as a learning aid: they merely test whether or not the skill has been acquired.
Watch the video clips to see how John Sekula, of Cornwall College, found a way round this. In telling his story, he recounts the role that his learners played in the way the materials evolved. In the resources box, you will find examples of the cards he developed and a guide to using them.
For another perspective on teaching 2D3D, look at the extract from Second Life. It offers a virtual alternative to handling real shapes.
