The video examples in these resources represent emerging practice. Some are part of providers' personalisation or inclusion strategies. Others show the initiatives of individual teachers, or contain the ideas of professionals in the field. Each has been included to illustrate one of three approaches that make a significant impact on learning. These approaches are learner voice, learning how to learn and assessment for learning.

Getting started contains a variety of activities; the video Developing the expert learner is a five minute introduction to how learners and teachers think about the expert learner. Talking about the expert learner is an activity that poses 'big ideas' for you and your colleagues to think about. Use the cards from the resource box or the online equivalent. To look in more detail at the characteristics of expert learners and how you might develop them over time, try the activity Learner journey. If your interest is in technology, listen to Professor Stephen Heppell talking about the future with Technology and the expert learner.

If you are interested in improving pastoral support for your learners then you might want to explore Supporting learners to succeed. This resource has been developed based on evidence and information collected from providers from across the learning and skills sector.
